Russell is a Founder Partner of Taylor Haldane Barlex LLP.

Russell's experience In the field of Criminal Litigation started as long ago as 1987 when he was engaged to prepare and manage Magistrates' and Crown Court matters commenced by the State. In 1990 he began to represent those detained at the Police Station.

Over the years, Russell has specialised in defending those accused of the most grave and complex crimes imaginable, both in the United Kingdom and overseas, to include contract killings, "gangland" murders, organised crime, multiple murder, terrorist offences, corruption, misconduct in public office and serial rape.

Russell has unrivalled experience in defending cases based upon prolonged covert Police or Serious Organised Crime Agency investigations and often involving the use of technical surveillance methods.

Given the high-profile nature of the cases undertaken by Russell, he is well-versed in dealing with the media and frequently appears in the national Press and upon both national and international television. Russell is regularly invited to comment upon and contribute to legal debate aired by both the BBC and ITV and is retained by an internationally renowned media organisation.

Russell is the holder of "The Law Society Award for Outstanding Performance" and "The Blackstones' Advocacy Award".
