Richard joined THB as a partner in May 2011. Prior to this he was a partner at Twitchen Musters & Kelly (latterly BTMK Solicitors LLP).
Richard qualified as a Higher Court Advocate following which he successfully defended at trial a Company Director prosecuted by Serious Fraud Office in a £4 million fraud.
Richard specialises in complex crime often involving lengthy multi-defendant conspiracies (Operation Eaglewood http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12115819 ). Richard is approved by the LSC as a case supervisor for Very High Cost Cases. Due to the specialist nature of his work, Richard’s cases take him across the country.
Richard’s recent cases include the representation of a pharmacist accused of mis-prescribing medication resulting in allegations of gross negligence manslaughter.
He has also successfully concluded the defence of a company director who faced concurrent criminal investigation and regulatory proceedings brought by the Financial Services Authority. The case involved a cross jurisdictional investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Richard has previously acted as a consultant on a terrorist case providing his expertise in the analysis of telephone intercept evidence and representation to the defendant for 14 consecutive days of interviews.
Richard is currently acting for a defendant in respect of allegation of money laundering £4.7 million of drugs monies through the production of Bollywood films. The case also involves a multi-million pound mortgage fraud. Richards is also currently representing a defendant in respect of an alleged boiler room share fraud prosecuted by the Financial Services Authority.
Richard has lectured to the Legal Profession and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.
Unlike one of his colleagues, Richard is a life long supporter of Arsenal FC. Richard also enjoys eating old school crisps.
