Paul Donegan


Paul joined THB upon qualification in 2005 and his career has excelled since then.  In 2009 he became a Partner in the firm reflecting his dedication and hard work not only to the firm but also his clients.

Paul’s practice began in the Magistrates’ Court.  He developed an almost unrivalled client following due to his meticulous work ethic and approachable nature.  Very quickly Paul gained his Higher Rights of Audience and now more regularly appears in the Crown Court.

A skilled advocate, Paul now undertakes complex and often lengthy Crown Court trials for clients accused of the most serious offences including drug trafficking matters and serious sexual offences.  The results speak for themselves and this is why Paul is called upon to defend many high profile cases.

Paul now heads the firm’s Ipswich Office.

Significant Cases

  • R v M: Paul represented a defendant accused of death by dangerous driving in a case which attracted a great deal of local media attention.  4 years imprisonment
  • R v S: Representation of a defendant faces two allegations of sexual activity with a child.  Acquittal following trial in the Crown Court
  • R v F: Paul represented a defendant who faced multiple counts of historic allegations of sexual activity with a child. Acquittal following trial in the Crown Court.
  • R v S: Led Junior in a multiple handed shooting case in which the client faced allegations of GBH, Aggravated Burglary and Firearms offences
  • R v I: Appeal against sentence in the Court of Appeal.  Paul represented the appellant whose sentence was reduced following the successful appeal from 30 to 24 months
  • R v R: Appeal against sentence in the Court of Appeal.  Paul was successful in this appeal in which the sentence was reduced from 9 years to 7 years.
  • Paul represented 7 defendants in Operation Portugal in 2017 involving a Class A drug test purchase operation in Suffolk.
