A Trust is a legal framework which allows you, known in this case as the Settlor, to pass or protect assets for a variety of reasons to a particular person or named persons or class of people, such as grandchildren, who are known as the beneficiaries. The assets are held by Trustees.
A Trust can be created either in lifetime or in a Will and the Trust Deed will give information as to how the Trustees should deal with the assets and how the beneficiaries should benefit.
Reasons to create a Trust
- Inheritance Tax planning
- Asset protection
- Passing assets to children under 18
- Passing assets to disabled or vulnerable beneficiaries
